Dr Dimitris Tsitsigiannis is Professor of Plant Pathology, Director of the Plant Protection and Environment Section in the Department of Crop Science and Member of the Board of Directors in Agricultural University of Athens. He obtained his PhD in 2004 from the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA (GPA=3.95/4.0). Prof. Tsitsigiannis is currently leading a research group of 20 PhD, MSc and undergraduate students working on developing novel, effective and environmentally sustainable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to control important plant diseases and mycotoxins utilizing classical and molecular plant pathology approaches in grapes, olives, vegetables, pistachios, field crops. His IPM strategies focus on discovery and evaluation of novel biocontrol products, novel solutions to improve diagnosis, forecasting, epidemiology and monitoring on plant pathogens and diseases (including mycotoxigenic fungi and mycotoxins), validation and development of prediction models and Decision Support Systems for plant diseases, evaluation of resistant/ tolerant varieties, use of new technology and service innovations (i.e. applications for remote and mobile diagnosis, precision agriculture in Plant Protection). He has participated in several R&D projects a) funded by the Horizon Europe, EU H2020, FP5, FP7, LIFE, TEMPUS programmes, COST actions and private companies and b) in several national research projects funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), Ministry of Rural Development and Food, Foundations etc., and is Coordinator of the Horizon Europe project STELLA, H2020-RISE project Ochravine Control and Co- Coordinator of the H2020 project OPTIMA.
