The Mediterranean Phytopathological Union (MPU) is a non-profit society open to organizations and individuals involved in plant pathology with a specific interest in the aspects related to the Mediterranean area considered as an ecological region. The Union was created with the aim of stimulating contacts among plant pathologists and facilitating the spread of information, news and scientific material on plant diseases occurring in the area.

The Union also intends to facilitate and promote studies and research on diseases of Mediterranean crops and their control. The Union hosts scientific papers dealing with problems related to diseases of Mediterranean crops in Phytopathologia Mediterranea, a journal specifically devoted to these aspects of plant pathology. The Union is affiliated to the International Society for Plant Pathology (ISPP).
