Mission & goals
Our mission
The MPU mission is to increase understanding of plant disease biology, from molecular to disease epidemic scales and disease control, by promoting fundamental and mission-oriented research on pathogens and their interactions with plants and environments.
Our goals
- stimulate co-operation among plant pathologists working in the Mediterranean agro-ecological region;
- facilitate transfer and news of scientific information and bibliographic data on plant diseases occurring in the region;
- facilitate sharing of relevant knowledge among plant pathologists;
- promote research on characterization and control of diseases of Mediterranean plants;
- encourage collaborative research projects, comparative experiments, and student exchange among countries and institutions;
- publish research papers dealing with problems related to diseases of Mediterranean crops in the journal Phytopathologia Mediterranea;
- facilitate education of students, professionals, and the general public on plant pathology and advances in plant health management.
