Nematodes are among the most numerous organisms on Earth. Understanding them—both in their beneficial and harmful roles—is essential. These tiny creatures contribute to ecosystem services such as organic matter recycling, predation of pathogens and parasites, and natural control of plant pests and harmful insects. At the same time, some species are known for their parasitic effects on plants and animals.
This contest invites artists, creators, and curious minds to explore and represent the fascinating world of nematodes through art. From audiovisual media to sculpture, photography, music, storytelling, and more—any artistic form is welcome. The goal is to make the unseen seen: to render something often unknown or “underappreciated” as captivating, mysterious, beautiful, or even unsettling.
All entries must be inspired by scientific knowledge about this animal phylum, but creative freedom in interpretation is strongly encouraged. Whether terrestrial or marine, microscopic or surprisingly large, nematodes are waiting to be reimagined—by you.
